On 6/1/08 we looked at the difficult and complex issue of divorce and remarriage, and what Jesus has to say about it in Matthew 5:31-32, as we continued through the Sermon on the Mount at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Indianola.

Also looked at Jesus debate with the Pharisees on this issue in Matthew 19:3-9, the original Mosaic provision in Deuteronomy 24:1-4, and Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 7:10-16.

Continuing on with the Sermon on the Mount series at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Indianola we look at Matthew 5:17-20 which is often misinterpreted and misunderstood.  Exactly what is Jesus’ relationship to the prophets and the law?  How does Jesus view the Old Testament?  What is the Christian’s responsibility regarding Old Testament law?

Christians who live by Kingdom norms (Matthew 5:7-12) will have influence.  Jesus in Matthew 5:13-16, using two metaphors, lays out the type of witness that His followers are to have in the world – we are the Salt of the earth and we are to be the light of the world.

To neglect doing this makes us useless for His Kingdom purposes.
