Actually they are the seven short phrases that Jesus uttered while hanging on the cross. I wanted to share them here.
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,” (Luke 23:34, ESV).
Even while on the cross in terrible agony Jesus prayed for not only those who were present, but for us as well. Some may blame the Romans or the leading Jewish authorities for Jesus’ crucifixion, but our sin placed him on the cross.
“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise,” (Luke 23:43, ESV).
To the thief that exercised faith and asked Jesus to remember him when he came into his kingdom. What faith that man had when many rejected Jesus, yet here when Jesus was on the cross dying this man recognized that Jesus was the Son of God.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home, (John 19:26-27, ESV).
Jesus was thinking of the welfare of those he loved even while on the cross.
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, ESV).
God the Father turns His back on his Son. Why? Because God is holy. Scripture says that when Jesus was on the cross for our sake, “he made him who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God,” (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV).
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst,” (John 19:28, ESV).
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit, (John 19:30, ESV).
When Christ dies our sins are completely paid for.
Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last, (Luke 23:46, ESV).
Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice on the cross so that I and many others can experience Your forgiveness!
