Robertson Predictions for 2008

January 5, 2008 by Shane Vander Hart

Rev. Pat Robertson made some predictions for 2008, as is his annual tradition.  As he prays about events in the coming year, he then shares what he believes God has told him on a recent episode of the 700 Club.

Prediction #1 – “The Lord was saying that there’s going to be violence and chaos in the world.

Prediction #2 – Evangelism will increase because more people are going to be seeking God as the chaos develops.

Prediction #3 – “We will see the presence of angels and we will see an intensification of miracles around the world, which I think is going to be a wonderful thing.”

Prediction #4 – There will be a recession.

Prediction #5 – Oil will reach $150 a barrel and that the U.S. dollar will continue to fall.

Prediction #6 – There will be a major stock market crash in 2009 or 2010.

His prediction last year about a terrible terrorist act that would possibly be nuclear didn’t come to pass.  His explanation?  “All I can think is that somehow the people of God in his mercy spared us.”

He also refused to make a prediction about the presidential race (maybe not feeling too good about that Rudy endorsement).

This reminds me of a certain passage of scripture:

But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’  And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’—  when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him, (Deuteronomy 18:20-22, ESV).

People make predictions all of the time, but not everybody claims the spiritual authority that Pat Robertson does.  I’m curious to hear from you, what do you think about these predictions?

I do not like the Pat Robertson’s of the world. I believe their primary motivation is money. They live in multi-million dollar houses…often five or six houses in various parts of the world. They constantly ask for money to do Gods work. Would they be interested in doing Gods work if they were only receiving a working man’s salary? I think not.

Sounds to me like he is seeking revelation from God through prayer. He must be a Mormon. :)

Marsha – that bothers me as well.

Bryce – I’m not even going to respond :) .

“He must be a Mormon.” (Bryce)

There can also be a case made for the idea he is a Mormon without the ‘r’ in the spelling…but that’s too tacky (lol).

Opps, small error there – what I meant is without the second ‘m’ in the name Mormon – my bad.
